Volunteer with NM House's Mobile School – Yaoundé

Volunteer Management; NM House

Your Saturday Morning Could Change a Child's Life

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week (flexible)

Location: Various street locations across Yaoundé (Centre Region)

What is the Mobile School?

Every week, NM House takes the classroom to the streets.

We meet street children where they are—not where we wish they would be. We teach basic literacy, numeracy, life skills, hygiene, and psychosocial support. We build trust. We listen. We remind each child that they still matter.

We need volunteers to make this happen.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with at least two mobile school interventions per week (schedules arranged around your availability)

  • Lead small-group learning sessions (reading, writing, math, games)

  • Help distribute meals, hygiene kits, and clothing

  • Build relationships with street children based on dignity and respect

  • Report observations to the Advocacy Officer

No teaching experience required. We train you in StreetSmart methodology and NM House's approach.

Who We're Looking For

  • Compassionate without being sentimental (you see strength, not just suffering)

  • Reliable (children will count on you to show up)

  • Patient (progress is slow; trust takes time)

  • Speak English or French (bilingual is a plus)

  • Comfortable on the streets (this is not an office role)

  • 18+ years old

What You'll Gain

  • Training in street education and child rights advocacy

  • Experience with a self-sustaining NGO that answers to no donors

  • The deep satisfaction of being part of a child's journey off the street

  • A certificate of volunteer service (upon completion of 50+ hours)

  • Connection to a community of passionate, like-minded people

Time Commitment

  • Minimum: 2 hours per week (one intervention)

  • Ideal: 4+ hours per week (two interventions)

  • Flexible scheduling – we work around your availability
